With this year's theme "Isang Dekada ng Bayanihan sa Paaralan," Brigada Eskwela is now on its 10th year of tapping the "bayanihan" spirit among Filipinos. Brigada Eskwela (National Maintenance Week) kicked-off on May 20 at the Philippine School for the Deaf, formally opening the program in different schools all over the Philippines in preparation for the influx of students for the academic year 2013-2014. Led by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Brother Armin Luistro, the activity was attended by teachers, students, communities, and business groups.
Even San Mig Coffee and GSM Blue endorser Anne Curtis graced the event to render volunteer hours for the project.
As part of Project 7500, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation (SMYPC) engaged its employees to be part of this nationwide undertaking. This volunteerism project was operated in six areas (Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Cebu, and Davao) where SMYPC facilities are located. Roof painting, repairing dilapidated ceiling boards, refinishing tables and other school furniture, and cleaning up of gardens and school grounds are few of the many volunteer works accomplished by our zealous employees in this week-long initiative.
