San Miguel Yamamura Asia Corporation (SMYAC) received its second Philippine Quality Award (PQA) recognition from H.E. President Benigno S. Aquino III during the 15th PQA held on December 12, 2012 at the Malacañang Palace. Attended by top-level management of SMYPC and SMYAC, the event aims to recognize the quality & productivity achievements of public and private sector organizations. From "Commitment to Quality Management" (Level 1) in 1998, SMYAC has been able to achieve significant progress in building sound processes, thus the "Proficiency in Quality Management" (Level 2) award.
Comparable with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) of the US and those in Europe and Asia, the PQA is institutionalized through Republic Act 9013, also known as the Philippine Quality Award Act. The program sets a principle of excellence to help Filipino organizations achieve world-class performance and serves as a "template" for competitiveness based on the standards of Total Quality Management (TQM).
